    Newbie Trackdays, need track time!

Alright, I'd like to get some track experience.

Any suggested venues, clubs to run with, instructors, schools?

My car should be "ready", although I'm wanting a bigger radiator and new tune that dials down the boost a little bit.

I don't need 21lbs of boost for track events, i'll be pussy footing it anyway. hahah.

    Thoughts, suggestions?

Look for NASA and PCA/BMW in your area.

Here are some tips off the top of my head.
    -Get dedicated track brake pads.
-Don't go out there trying to be a winner. It's your first time, so just act like the n00b that you are.
    -LISTEN to your instructor.
-Get a GOOD night's sleep the night before and keep hydrated.
    -LISTEN to your instructor!
Stay off the brakes as much as possible on the cool down lap.
    -LISTEN to your instructor!!

    Thanks Vic.

I'll look into those two/three clubs.

I don't really drive the car much, when you say track dedicated do you mean swap them out at the track or swap them out a few days before/after?

so it'd be a good idea to put my speed bleeders in as well and carry extra fluid and some tubing to bleed the brakes at the track?

I'd really like to do 3 or so events this year if possible, I'm not sure how the Star Specs will hold up to that kind of abuse. Could put the 245s on the stockers and get some wider RE-11's or AD08's (since I don't really fit in STU anyway anymore. ).

oh yeah, thoughts on Chin motorsports?

They have a few events at Sebring this year, which isn't a terrible drive.

Remember Drew that just cause you are a track event does not mean you have to push the car to its limits. Yes, heat of the car is greater (radiator), brakes and tires take a lot more wear/punishment. But, you take it at your own pace and if driven conservatively (right up your alley) the wear items will not take such a bad beating.

you would be better off with a track race tires (r6, NTO1, AO48, RA1) which are made for and take advantage of the increased and constant heat of a track event if you went that route.

Also, you can use the stock tune or the off the shelf map Stage 2 as well, which I believe is very rich if you are concerned about hurting the engine.

Why are you making 21 lbs of boost by the way?

that's the map from Jared, from way back when.

I was hoping to be able to use the RPF1s for both Autox and Track.

although an NT01 wouldn't be terrible at autox.

Actually, I've been pleasantly surprised by the durability of the Star Specs. Both of the ER track days I've done have been on those tires, yet they're set to last a bit over 15,000 miles if I rotate them for one last time, whereas the Miata's factory Bridgestone RE050s barely lasted 10,000 miles.

what's the weight on your miata? Based on some reviews (and seeing Kolin cook his at Ft. Myers) I don't think they'd be up to the task of a 20 minute session in a 3300lb STI.

I really need to just autox for the time being and start piling up parts for a track day, say in April.
