Tell me about it! I don't know why they keep timing the Serpentine this way, unless they deliberately want to keep the number of drivers low...

Yup! Given that fact, plus the cold weather and 0-10% chance of rain, I wound up going after all.

I got there early enough that I had a chance to ask Joelle Fuller about the logic (or lack thereof) in scheduling the Serpentine around (or on) Valentine's Day. Turns out they hate it as much as we do, but have no choice. Monroe County only lets them use that road on very select times of the year, since other events and stuff conflict with other possible dates.

The Spring Snoopy & Woodstock, for instance, traditionally a March or early April event, won't happen until April 18 this year because of turtle mating season. Yes, the people get screwed so that the turtles can screw in peace!

The Serpentine only had 15 competitors this year, and we each got 4 runs except for one lucky Lotus Elise that kept encountering timer issues (more than I've ever seen at a Keys event) and wound up getting something like 7 runs.

I hit more cones that I should considering that I'm driving a Miata, but my third run was clean, my fastest and, with its 1:49.922, was about 4 seconds faster than my 1:53xxx in the Subaru back in 2007, the last time I ran the Serpentine.
